Hi, I’m Jessica Hachey

Documentary Nature Photographer

Naturalist | Conservationist | Adventurer

An explorer at heart, I have an untamed enthusiasm, passion and an insatiable curiosity for the wonders of nature, wildlife and the great outdoors.

I have been working as a documentary photographer for a decade, and am passionate about using my skills as a visual storyteller to capture the raw beauty of the natural world and advocate for its conservation.

You can most often find me hiking long days on trail, setting up camp in the backcountry, or paddling through tranquil waters in my trusty canoe. My daughter, husband and pup occasionally braving the adventure with me! As a fervent lover of the great outdoors, I'm always on the lookout for new wild places to explore, and learning everything I can about the landscapes, wildlife and history of the area along the way.

My life is deeply intertwined with volunteering, and I take great pride in my involvement with the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Wearing multiple hats as a Trail Captain, Trail Maintenance Worker, Citizen Scientist, and Newsletter Co-ordinator, I’ve seen first hand the power of connection to the earth and the impact we can all have on the preservation our wild spaces.

I’ve also had the privilege to volunteer with other organizations such as Green Venture, Hamilton Conservation Authority, and Conservation Halton. I’ve spent time with my hands deep in the earth removing invasive species, planting native trees, shrubs and flowers, and have seen the benefits of that work for our local wildlife and communities.

The challenges our planet faces can feel overwhelming. What keeps me going is the belief that creating strong storytelling photographs has the potential to start conversations, inspire action and a sense of shared responsibility. Collectively, we have the power to make significant positive change toward a healthier and more sustainable world.
